Yellowman Cave, Nevada

Yellowman Cave is a Nevada cave that has been lost in the archives for decades. The documents describe a large cave with prehistoric pictographs and historic writing. We set out to look for it but ended up finding another cave and found ourselves a bit high from where the location exists. I set up another trip and we were able to locate the place. I do not consider it a cave but more of an extended shelter — it appeared to follow a fault into very crumbly rock 60–70 ft back into the shelter.

We entered with extreme caution to ensure nothing was disturbed. We passed by a small amount of solutional activity including small popcorn on the floor. The ceiling had some solutional activity. There was a burnt ceiling in the back with an old hole. The pictographs were visible — the most notable was a trapezoidal humanoid figure on the wall around 7 inches in length. This same humanoid has been found in two other locations within southwest Nevada. Additionally there was writing that said 'Death Valley Curley Beatty Nev.' and 'Dennis.' I was expecting a lot more but it was quite fascinating to see a yellow pictograph with other historic relics inside.
