Wilbur Canyon, Arizona

The day before we knocked out Sundance Canyon, then grabbed Wilbur Canyon on the way back to Vegas. The road to Wilbur is quite bumpy and riddled with lava which can puncture tires — be careful. We found the canyon to be quite straightforward, less water than Sundance, and the sneak route to be quite sneaky.

We replaced one of the anchors and noticed another brand-new anchor with knots tied in a configuration creating interesting vector forces. The lower section was the best part — raps in quick succession and great scenery. The last rap into West Clear Creek was fantastic, rappelling right into the water. The swim across to the creek was beautiful. We completed this canyon in 4 hours, same as the day before. Both canyons are well worth the effort.
