Cobolt Cave, Nevada

Cobolt Cave is another newly discovered cave in Nevada. I named it because it has a cobalt look on the inside and it requires an aid climb to get into the entrance. The cave is less than 100 ft in length but has some interesting geological features — corrosion residue on the walls, apparent signs of past waterflow, and a fine dusty floor with a sulfur bitter smell and taste. This makes me wonder if there was sulfuric acid influence.
The cave is basically a crawl through tight spaces that opens into a room you can stoop walk. There are some flowstone formations and interesting popcorn formations on the wall. Other short caves are around the area but nothing significant has opened up. If there were some type of opening, I suspect we would find a highly decorated cave if sulfuric acid was able to be present as it is in a few other Nevada caves. Continued exploration will happen — I have a feeling we will find something significant soon.
