Garden Creek Canyon is a 3CIV technical route in the depths of the South Bright Angel Trail in the heart of the Grand Canyon. It has flowing water year-round and becomes a waterpark when the gage is lifted. We started at 5:30AM to get a parking spot and descended the South Bright Angel trail. Team: Pat Winstanley, Danielle Monroy, Zach Hopp, Tiffanie Lin, Andy, Heather. Check weather before going — rain could be dangerous.
First rap ~60ft pinch point DCL. Then a 150ft swirling waterfall chute with 5 small falls to work down to a ledge with trees and a pool. Then the 400ft waterfall — two 200ft drops. The first section has super impressive water pressure. The second is a bridal veil falls. Need TWO 200ft ropes for this sequence. We brought 2x 200ft ropes, 200ft pull cord, and an 80ft rope.
The watercourse was beautiful — some of the best C class canyoneering in the Southwest. The tax is a 4,900ft ascent back to the rim with wet gear. Pack weight ~40 lbs wet. 12 hours 30 minutes car to car. Absolutely incredible canyon — not many of them but for the few that exist, they are awesome.
