The Uinta Mountains in northeastern Utah are a unique geological feature — the only major east-west trending range in the contiguous United States. The High Uintas Wilderness contains 26 peaks over 13,000ft including Kings Peak at 13,528ft, Utah's high point. The range sits at the intersection of the Rocky Mountain and Colorado Plateau provinces with Late Precambrian sandstones and quartzites dominating the high country.
