The Kalalau Trail runs 11 miles one-way along the Na Pali Coast of Kauai — one of the most remote coastlines in the Pacific. The jagged sea cliff faces of the Napali Coast look unlike anything else on the planet. Backpacker Magazine called it one of the 10 most dangerous hikes in the world. Started in complete darkness at 3am — the dim flickering headlamp illuminating the first 2 miles to Hanakapi Beach alone. The trail traverses exposed cliff ridges, crosses stream valleys, and weaves through patches of rainforest before opening to the Kalalau Valley. Worth every step. The tug to stay in the valley is real. State permit required for hiking past Hanakapi Beach.
