Redwall Canyon Main Fork, Death Valley National Park

Redwall Canyon is a rarely visited non-technical canyon in Death Valley. No road to the canyon head, no sign, and a two-mile hike with no trail — all good signs that this place has seen very few visitors. We accessed Redwall through the technical northwest fork: over 3,000 ft of gain and a couple more miles of mountain traverse, with 5 rappels to drop into the main fork.
Once in the main fork it was a smooth walk out — easy with interesting colors and geology throughout. Sections got a bit narrow and colors of red and orange blazed as the sun reflected off the walls. There is one downclimb with a handline in place; the old-school slings will need changing. Probably one of the more narrow canyons within Death Valley. Just 5 raps and 3,500 ft of gain — but the experience made it all worth it. Looking forward to more Death Valley next season.
