Sistema Huautla in Oaxaca, Mexico is the deepest cave in the Western Hemisphere. The 2016 expedition included a La Greita survey push. The week prior a sloth fossil was found in one of the pits near Huautla — the first ever found in Mexico. A resurgence dive by Sandy Varin and David Bardi surveyed 600m of new dry passage beyond sump 2 at 55m depth. The cave continues. Arriving solo by flight to Oaxaca City then van bus up the mountain to Huautla de Jimenez — a journey in itself. Camp Carlota was the base.
