After returning to Ely from Emerald Lake Cave, we grabbed lunch and headed to the range where Peshio Cave is located. Justin's 4Runner got us high up a steep road with a beautiful basin view. The following morning we woke to a herd of elk running down the mountain, their hooves clamping on the limestone. With Justin Bailey, Dakota Drew, and Jamie Goodwin.
The cave sits at about 7,200ft elevation. One entrance required crawling through dusty passages until breaking into a standing room, then the coral room — folia, popcorn, gypsum formations, and corrosion residue on walls and ceiling. Busy and detailed inside. The cave has two entrances so we walked out the main one. This 730ft cave has a lot of interesting mineralogy — glad we can protect this place.
