Micro Death Hollow, Escalante

In my opinion Micro Death Hollow is one of the best canyons in Escalante. Relatively short but rich with variety and a personality that doesn't give up the goods easily. The roads were a bit much for the Outback so we hiked the last bit to the canyon top. Immediately you are welcomed into the corridors — the entrance into this canyon is one to remember.
The canyon has a 280 ft rap into a potential keeper pothole — this one was dry, but a partner assist is an easy out. We stemmed across some water to a clearing where the canyon opened up. Then we got into the narrow section — pretty tight but manageable for a 180 lb person. Continuing down we waded through water before the final section appeared. The last rap was a nice drop into the river below. Hiking up the river to exit the checkerboard mesa had incredible views. Highly recommended.
