Keyhole Canyon, Nevada

Keyhole Canyon is an excellent Sunday afternoon canyon for winter due to mild conditions and close proximity to Las Vegas. Less than an hour from the city, but bring a high clearance vehicle to reach the trailhead. Laura and I hiked up a wash and followed a ridge around a couple of draws to the canyon head. This canyon was surprisingly beautiful — each of the 4 drops had polished pastel pink dryfalls with sculpting and small limestone pockets. The first drop is ~40ft with a small seepage spring. The second is ~50-55ft but the anchor is a long chain, not the safest, with webbing backup that should be tightened. The canyon meanders through a narrow corridor with the remaining raps.
