Dorton Knob Smoke Hole–Bolt Climb, Tennessee/Alabama

Deep in the Dorton Knob Smoke Hole system, Damien climbed 60ft on bolt kit before running out of rope in the dome. Mike pushed the sinister tight passage — a relentless squeeze — and reported a 15-20ft dome room with water coming from the top and a crack at the bottom. The climb logistics were shady due to chert layers. Equipment exhausted and temperatures dropping, we made our way out through the 1,200ft belly crawl via the yuppie entrance in water and gravel to Hidden Well. I popped a shoulder working through a 10-inch squeeze with gear on. The wind coming through Hidden Well at the bottom. A long day underground.
