Comb Wash/Ridge Ruins, Utah

Comb Ridge is a geological monocline in southeastern Utah stretching for 80 miles through the Cedar Mesa area, forming a dramatic reef that drops hundreds of feet on its western face. The ridge and the wash below it contain significant Anasazi archaeological sites — cliff dwellings, pottery sherds, kilns, and rock art that date back thousands of years. Hiking along the reef and in the side canyons connects multiple ruin alcoves scattered above the wash. Getting to the slab rock in temperatures over 100 degrees in spring is part of the experience — bring multiple liters of water. A fundamental piece of the Cedar Mesa and Four Corners archaeological landscape.
