Pihea Trail, Kauai, Hawaii

The Pihea Trail starts at the Pu'u O Kila Lookout in Koke'e State Park and offers panoramic views over the Kalalau Valley and the Pacific Ocean immediately from the trailhead — even the first half mile is extraordinary on a clear day. The trail continues along the ridge and descends into the Alakai Swamp, connecting to the Alakai Swamp Trail for a 14-mile day. The green arboretum aesthetic transitions to a swampy cloud forest with rare endemic plant life including the insectivorous drosera anglica sundew. One of the wettest environments on Earth.
