Larry Canyon 3AIII, Robbers Roost, Utah

After a night of complete chaos at Motel 6 we headed out to get into a nice canyon that would be a bit more straightforward for everyone. We rolled out and made it to the Larry Canyon trailhead, setting up a shuttle — a very successful choice we continued from the day before. We showed up to the first rap and the gorge below gave way to some nice sculpted sandstone. Larry is a popular canyon so other groups were ahead of us, but as a group of 17 people we were multiple groups within groups ourselves.
The canyon was straightforward to navigate with optional stemming around the slots. A bottleneck of people formed at the narrow section — thankfully dry conditions made it a great place to nap. Some of us fell asleep for up to two hours before moving forward. Once past that section we found ourselves in a deep canyon corridor with beautiful sculpted walls and great colors. The canyon eventually went into an almost cavern-like scene where you lose all light — requiring stemming through a 45-degree angled slot. We made it to the last two optional rappels and had a blast with both. Finished the canyon in 9 hours despite the bottlenecking. I highly recommend this canyon to get started in the more technical canyons of the Roost.
