Green River Canyonlands, Island in the Sky, Utah

The Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park sits on a massive mesa 2,000ft above the surrounding canyonlands where the Green and Colorado Rivers converge far below. The Green River Overlook is one of the most dramatic viewpoints in the park — the river visible as a thin green ribbon snaking through the canyon 1,000ft below. From this vantage, the scale of the Colorado Plateau's erosion over millions of years is immediately comprehensible. Part of a Moab area circuit that included Castleton Tower, Granary Canyon, Rock of Ages, and the Moab canyons.
