Fish Creek Canyon–Owl Creek Canyon Loop Trail, Cedar Mesa, Utah

Fish Creek Canyon and Owl Creek Canyon form a 16-mile loop at Cedar Mesa, Utah — one of the best multi-day hikes in the state. A 5-mile remote dirt road leads to the trailhead. The first 1.75 miles take you to the rim of Fish Creek canyon with sweeping Cedar Mesa vistas. Then down into the canyon bottom, following the watercourse through towering walls, Anasazi ruins, and pictograph panels including hand-print pictographs on the ceiling. Water was scarce — several static pools before finding a perennial stream. Owl Creek has the ruins. Hanging garden plunge pools near the exit. Bring water filter and permit. Highly recommended.
